Mario the Baker

“If you don’t order anything else at Mario’s besides the mouthwatering stuffed mushroom appetizer, you’ll still be glad you went.”

You ever just love the name of a restaurant? I knew once I read the name that this place was going to be a treat — and I quickly fell in love with their food. They have the best stuffed mushrooms I’ve ever tasted. My aunt used to make these bad boys when I was growing up so whenever they’re on a menu, I’m sold. I love mushrooms! I mean, if you don’t order anything else at Mario’s besides this mouthwatering appetizer, you’ll still be glad you went.

I’ve been back many times, and it’s been a good experience each time. Not only has Mario the Baker been around for 50 years, they are such a family run business. I love seeing the cooks and kitchen workers take a break to eat together at one of the tables right next to the customers, enjoying themselves as much as the customers. It sends a nice message. They love their own food. It must be good, right?

Their menu is filled with old school Italian, the traditional stuff Italian Bridgeporters were raised on–like chicken francaise, ziti genovese, tortellini ala pana and ravioli.  Pasta or salad sides come with each entree and the bread is to die for. Even their pepper and egg grinder threw me for a loop.

Mario’s is a local favorite; the regulars are lined up (no reservations) by five o’ clock nearly every night and the take-out business flourishes.
