Ralph ‘n’ Rich’s
815 Main Street, Downtown Bridgeport
“I’m an oyster aficionado and love theirs – either on the half shell or stuffed Florentine style as a starter.”
Is there a better way to spend Mother’s Day than at Mom’s favorite restaurant? Lucky for me, it’s my favorite, too. Ralph ‘n’ Rich’s has been in the heart of downtown Bridgeport for over 25 years.
More luck for me — Ralph and Rich are my neighbors. When I went to their restaurant for the first time, I didn’t know Ralph spends most of his time in the kitchen behind the delicious food they serve. Rich, who greets guests as they arrive, was nice enough to get me a last minute reservation for Mother’s Day. I couldn’t have been more grateful. Then, the weekend before the following Christmas, when they were packed from 5 to 9, no room to spare, he was able to squeeze in my mother, myself and a friend.
I could eat their prime rib every day, and the spiedina romano appetizer is my absolute favorite — parmesan crusted mozzarella, bread, capers and burnt butter brown sauce. Their veal piccata oozes with tenderness and their shrimp parmesan, with sides of potatoes and veggies, provide mouthfuls of table-sharing pleasure. I’m an oyster aficionado and love theirs – either on the half shell or stuffed Florentine style as a starter.
Ralph ‘n’ Rich’s has gorgeous, roomy digs on Main Street, across the street from the Barnum Museum. During the summer, their outdoor patio dining adds to the pleasure. It’s great to see Ralph and Rich continuing to preside over the kitchen and the front of the house. There’s something to be said when the owners are always there to help.
