“My baked potato came with the works, melted sour cream and butter, just the way I like it – and wrapped in aluminum foil like at home.”
The Smithy is a hidden gem. Any place that has a CHEESE bar is where I want to go –followed by a full salad bar with all the toppings you can imagine and two soup choices. A wide variety of breads ends the line. For over 40 years the Smithy has been a place for comfortable and cozy. As the sign says, this tucked away colonial home off Main St.in Monroe, just north of the Trumbull line, is where “Good Food and Drink meet Rustic Mood.” Its homey feel and lightly lit interior features a wood fireplace. Noted for their hand-cut steaks and chops, my friend and I went with two seafood entrees.
All entrees come with a salad and baked potato. YAAS! I had an amazing fresh stuffed fillet of sole; I could taste the stuffing in every bite. My potato came with the works, melted sour cream and butter, just the way I like it – and wrapped in aluminum foil like at home. A shared bite of my friend’s grilled salmon was so succulent it slid down my throat. And the wine list was large enough to choose from but not intimidating. I love their tiny menu — both in size and content — enough to choose from but not too much to confuse.
Also, their “Smithy Kids” menu suits the family atmosphere. Be forewarned – no reservations, doors open at five and closed on Mondays.
